Donald Trump is punishing California for passing state laws protecting the environment -- yes, really. Not satisfied with rolling back federal auto emission regulations, he’s now unleashing the entirety of the federal government against a liberal political foe. The Environmental Protection Agency is trying to roll back California's longstanding waiver -- its right, since 1975, to hold carmakers to a higher standard for cars sold in California. And the Department of Justice is trying to investigate automakers talking to California for unspecified antitrust violations.
It’s a blatant threat to force car manufacturers into making dirtier cars emitting more smog and more pollution. It’s a bullying tactic in which the Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency have become perversions of their selves, acting as a political arm of Trump’s reelection campaign. And it’s just plain wrong.
Federal agencies are supposed to enforce the law fairly and without personal vendettas or motivations driven by political ideology.
Urge Trump to back off!
TO: Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Environmental Protection Agency
Back off of California’s clean car laws and the auto companies trying to make our air cleaner!
