Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign for President has floated a trial balloon on climate, saying he’ll seek “middle ground” on solving this crisis of our time. This half measure, substantially weaker than any proposal from any other candidate, basically proposes to drown half of Miami and leave half of California to burn. Biden’s policies reject the Green New Deal entirely in favor of a return to the Paris Climate Accords along with redoing a few regulations the Trump administration has undone -- and he’ll continue our dependence on fracked natural gas.
We have to push all of the Democrats running for president to make sure they know bold action is the only option. As Dr. Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University, notes:
“The greatest fault in [Biden’s] proposal is the suggestion that natural gas can be part of the solution… the solution to a problem created by burning fossil fuels cannot be the burning of fossil fuels.”
The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the sustainability of the planet itself are all on the line. It’s time to be more courageous than “business as usual” by DC’s standards.
Tell the Democrats running for President: No compromise on climate.
2020 Democrats: there’s no time for middle ground on climate. This is a generational and landmark moment for our country -- let’s treat it as such and prioritize bold, aggressive policies to tackle the climate crisis.
