Given the lack of national leadership on climate change, it will be up to the states to proactively shape our clean energy future. Just last week, California joined Hawaii in committing to 100 percent clean energy by passing SB 100, a groundbreaking bill authored by Kevin de León.
We need more states nationwide to lead the way on clean, renewable energy. From our farmers in Iowa who benefit from wind turbines, to Florida homeowners going solar to gain energy independence and save on their utility bills, we must continue this progress because there's more to be done. We owe bold action to our children and our children’s children.
Climate change is a real threat, with research showing it disproportionately harms low-income and minority communities. This challenge is too urgent to sit idly by and hope that Washington will act (spoiler: they won't). It will be up to each of us to fight for the kinds of communities we want to secure for the next generation.
