Two Republican Senators, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Cory Gardner of Colorado, and two Republican House members, Brian Mast of Florida and Elise Stefanik of New York, have created what they’re calling the Roosevelt Conservation Caucus. The caucus will ostensibly work on public lands and something vague about innovative market-based solutions to climate change.
Republicans say they care about conservation… until oil drilling across the West threatens the sage grouse, seismic exploration in Alaska kills baby polar bears, and Bears Ears gets shrunk at the behest of mining interests, and then it’s amnesia time. Fossil fuel money buys access to these Republicans: nearly $1.7 million to Graham, $2 million to Gardner, $165,000 to Mast, and $139,000 to Stefanik. (All data via Open Secrets)
If they are to have any credibility at all, they’ll reject fossil fuel money. Tell Republicans on the Roosevelt Conservation Committee to reject fossil fuel money!
