Rick Scott: Extend Voter Registration Until After The Matthew Emergency Is Over

Hurricane Matthew is a monster storm, fueled by global warming pollution. It cut a path of terrible destruction through the Caribbean, particularly Haiti. The death toll there is surging into the hundreds. Now it is pummeling Florida, where President Obama declared a state of emergency on Thursday. Governor Rick Scott has refused to extend the voter registration deadline.

The people of Florida need to be able to focus right now on keeping themselves and their loved ones safe, not on whether they'll be able to cast their ballots.

Rick Scott is the chairman of Donald Trump's Super PAC. He is playing partisan politics with our democracy. This is unacceptable.

To Rick Scott, Governor of Florida:

Extend the Florida voter registration deadline until after the Hurricane Matthew emergency is over.

Having lived through several large-scale floods, I know that in the immediate days and weeks after a flood, people spend time making sure their families are safe, securing and repairing their homes, and scrambling to keep businesses running. The people of Florida effected by Hurricane Matthew should have extra time to register to vote given these unforeseen circumstances.

Let’s see, fix my home find food or register. Let’s see, take care of/mourn my family/friends who are deceased or register to vote… It isvery wrong that voter registration not extended. If you do not extend this, it says loud and clear how much you care about your Floridians.

Voting is the right of We The People. How dare you, Rick Scott, to think you have any mandate to interfere with basic citizens right. Unbelievable!

You are there to serve all the people of Florida not just your party. Must we remind you of your oath!
