President Obama: Make Standing Rock a National Monument

On November 15, Senator Bernie Sanders stood with tribal leaders in front of the White House and said: "I am honored to be with a worldwide community that are demanding the Dakota Access Pipeline not be built. We say to President Obama stop this pipeline in any way you can. Declare Standing Rock a national monument. And to Mr. Trump: We are not going silently into the night. The stakes are too high for the future of this planet."

Add your name to Bernie's:

We say to President Obama, in any and every way you can, stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. Declare the historic treaty lands of the Standing Rock Sioux threatened by the pipeline a federal monument.

Our leaders have been responsible for outright lies, murder, revocation of land, and refusal to honor treaties we knowingly were never going to. Please Mr. President, do our native american citizens and rightful owners of of a majority of our nation a favor and declare not only Standing Rock but all native sacred lands national monuments and national treasures to be protected by the full force and weight of the U.S. government from all who would do them harm or try to take advantage of their lands for profit. We owe them no less than that and a hell of a lot more. But like our national disgrace of slavery, we still cannot find it in ourselves to do the right thing by people of color and we surely haven’t been doing right by native americans. Please do the right thing.
