Exxon Petition to State AGs

Exxon knew about climate change in the 1970s. And surprise, surprise, they’ve been lying about it ever since -- they’ve spent tens of millions of dollars over the past forty years funding a climate denial industry that keeps the public in the dark and pressures lawmakers not to fix the problem.

We’re talking about what could be the largest case of fraud in human history.

New York State’s Attorney General already started an investigation. California’s AG started an investigation, and earned her a Climate Hawks Vote endorsement. Maryland's AG listened to your petition and started an investigation. Massachusetts’ AG started an investigation. Now AGs across the country are thinking about following suit. But they need to know that we’re watching, and that we demand they act now.

These sorts of investigations are what convinced America about the evil of Big Tobacco -- it’s time for Big Oil to get the same treatment.

So please, join the call: Exxon’s day in court has come -- they need to tell the truth in court, and face the consequences of their lies and fraud.

Launch a prosecution of Exxon and its fellow fossil-fuel companies for deliberate and malicious climate deception.

Withholding the information they had and lobbying against grappling with that information in any way is the most massive crime against humanity that I’ve ever seen. It is leading us into the 6th Great Extinction which may include us.

It is now time that we start putting these corporate perpetrators in prison for their intentional lying to the general public in order to gain more greedy corporate profits. They are putting their corporate profits over environmental integrity and human health. Fining them several millions of dollars is no more of a punishment or cause them a meaningful hardship than it is for me to give $10 to the poor. Besides that, any fines instituted would be recovered with the generous tax breaks and loop-holes oil companies have when they file their corporate taxes. Let’s make them face the consequences!
