Exxon Petition to State AGs

Exxon knew about climate change in the 1970s. And surprise, surprise, they’ve been lying about it ever since -- they’ve spent tens of millions of dollars over the past forty years funding a climate denial industry that keeps the public in the dark and pressures lawmakers not to fix the problem.

We’re talking about what could be the largest case of fraud in human history.

New York State’s Attorney General already started an investigation. California’s AG started an investigation, and earned her a Climate Hawks Vote endorsement. Maryland's AG listened to your petition and started an investigation. Massachusetts’ AG started an investigation. Now AGs across the country are thinking about following suit. But they need to know that we’re watching, and that we demand they act now.

These sorts of investigations are what convinced America about the evil of Big Tobacco -- it’s time for Big Oil to get the same treatment.

So please, join the call: Exxon’s day in court has come -- they need to tell the truth in court, and face the consequences of their lies and fraud.

Launch a prosecution of Exxon and its fellow fossil-fuel companies for deliberate and malicious climate deception.

Exxon still hasn’t paid even the 10% of the original fine owed for the Valdez spill.

That was over 30 years ago.

Corporations should have to pay environmental fines before challenging them in court. Otherwise they simply will tie things up in court, costing us money and time while the fine diminishes through inflation.

Corporations which cannot be responsible ‘citizens’ should be treated like people. Since a corporation cannot be jailed, they should be nationalized, and their board and management imprisoned.

No natural resource extraction company proven unable to comply with environmental law shall be permitted to purchase or operate any Federal lease.

Justice demands the truth, the law must prosecute those who endanger others, the victims deserve compensation for damages and the people want responsible parties to pay for their crimes in jail. Mother nature will take her revenge but we will all suffer.

Exxon pollutes and ruins the environment and gets off free. Where’s the justice in that?
